IN TREES

IN TREES

think
thin
thing
an “ing”
in
tree
to paper
to T P

100 foot tree
100 sheet roll
some accomplishment
that destruction
the magic of the ages
reduced by need
for destruction
becoming newly planted

as the expanding universe
speeds away
until all the galaxies
lose sight of each other
 the galaxy breeds
stars who gather
and reproduce
then leave home

so thin
the thinking
tree thing
as a height beyond
any induced destruction
 where even 100
magic ages
become newly formed
before leaving home

SURPRIZE

SURPRISE

here
a sudden misunderstanding
along a prone thought
like a sneeze

discovery
that to be prone
leaves nothing
to hide under

standing
makes a space
prone to thought
it’s so sudden

discovery
along a space
nothing to hide
not even a sneeze

understanding
missed space
hidden under
plain sight

thought
like a sneeze
with nothing to hide
it’s all so
sudden

A. MENDOZA, 2017

CANTOR

CANTOR

Can you run at a canter
along cannery row
as gulls banter
about the fish they stole
composing as a cantor
at the shore
while on horseback
along cannery row

battening down
ahead of the storm
ships and shops
along cannery row
where the bandit gulls go

wind in your face
salt spray in a race
clouds as covers
water that ahead lays
whipping winds flying along
sea
sand
storm

cloud to vista
those untouchable masters
both precede and follow
moon
sky
memory

water as air
water as sky
water as memory
running at canter
along cannery row
to the cantor of gulls
bragging about
the fish they stole

A. MENDOZA, 2017

TIC-TOC

TIC-TOC

the tic-toc of time
slips
by a windstorm like it isn't there

windstorm rips and rails
in defiance
as the time vanishes

taking moments that vanish
to memories
exposed and fanning out

an unsheathed preparation
like a steam  reaching up
to a mist from below

laying across from a feeling
too soon missing the top
and hitting the floor

raging storm
slapping at time
pounding windstorm
whipping the earth
peeling away the mountains
to only fade into the ether
existing no more
and no less

storm and time
both are and are not

A. MENDOZA, 2017

THE UNSTEADY WORKER

THE UNSTEADY WORKER

the rush of wind hearing
an unsteady voice
like a cartoon voice
colour coated
in the flavour of dill weed
flying like pollen
to a taste of music
hoping to land
in the wine
disappointed by water
having life
instead of spirit

a whistling call
pushing a stone
like the whipping of tart mayonnaise
landing a deception
out of rhythm
expecting smooth
surprized by the kick
from believing
only seeing
before the taste

rolling unseen
air like roiling water
waves crashing
wrapping the blanket
around the world
aromatic and unavoidable
as a song unending
missing only beat
and all the past
becoming a single moment

the rush of wind tossing
 a voice
a leaf
 a taste
 a stone
   a whisper
blowing away the dust
striking the unsteady worker
