The Hubris of the Gullible

There is an old point in economics that looks at how, by dividing parts of an economy, profit can be made. In todays information technology economy that divide is made by confusion and mis-information.

Hiding facts by out and out lies and promoting innuendo is the new way to divide an economy and profit from that division. All over the planet that tactic has now very effectively been applied.

The new sign that is most posted for all to see is "will lie for money, promote falsehoods for power."
Oh, and you're going to pay for it.

Because so many have such poor education there is a huge gap in really understanding what goes on around them. It is easy to lie to someone who doesn't know better.

Our democracy depends on the common good and education was always a part of that. As education has become less valuable than profit or fame promoting falsehoods has remained easy to promote.

The protests over the last 40 years have been about combating the many falsehoods that had to be exposed. The push back has always been, "not on my watch."

Gullibility has been the hubris of America for a very long time.
I guess truth is just too hard for most it seems.

ENOUGH

I see that sometimes how vague language
makes even simple ideas complicated.

This inquiring mind wants to know, what's enough?

The idea of what is “enough”
Placing value is very subjective, except when it’s not.

Even the idea of what is practical comes into question
Who places a limitation also defines who'll control that valuation
And how what is enough is defined and how that definition is accepted.

A chemical solution of sugar in tea is a good example
The what and why of sugar in tea can be very, very subjective.

When are there enough taxes, enough clean water or enough pollution that is harmful? And then, harmful to whom? Enough tax for whom? What purpose will the enough serve, and for who?

Working in an acceptable range of enough is very fuzzy
A stuffed animal seems more real.

Even the acceptability of the acceptable “enough” comes into question at practically every instance of a moral or legal question
That vagueness is what makes jurisprudent construction so difficult.

How can such a construction not fail?

The differences in what is “moral” or “legal” are very confusing when such are compared to, say, State's Right vs Federal, or, from one religious view vs another.

Enough about enough, hopefully.
Where is my fuzzy stuffed animal?

TO SHOW

sheets lined
 star facing toward

windward dropping sails

that say less unfurled

airless wind at a loss

unfilled sails

moonlight by day

never matters more

by night

even when guided

by star light

lite by starlight

surrounding the day unseen

like a dark music

or a windless sail unfurled

airless wind found at a loss

sheets unlined dropped

unfulfilled sails

like a moon by day

patient until the night returns

because light matters most

when the sails are unfurled

to catch the surrounding

dark music

AN ELECTION FABLE

An Election Fable

in a large pasture surrounded by mountains
were a flock of sheep and herd of goats

on one mountaintop was a great wolf
on the other a ferocious panther

looking for a meal each started down the valley towards their prey
halfway down each saw the other and realized the other would have to go
so they started their approaches

as they approached and sized each other up
each then realized the other could do
fatal damage to the other

and said the wolf, “the sheep are mine”
and said the panther, “the goats are mine”

then the hungry predators each went towards their prey
when a man fired his gun and killed them both

DOUBLE VISION

Double Vision

mis-understanding a double vision
emotion becomes the moment
only what is felt is left
cold precision of time melts down feeling
when the moment of emotion overwhelms eternity
knowledge freezes the flowing

blind to even what is seen
that flowing frozen time
eternal in its moment
when knowing that what is felt
becomes the reason for what is meant
to be frozen in time
a double vision

clocks over ice
a sweetened drink swirling
frozen moments mixed
what is frozen cannot flood
an emotional ice age
doubly seen as what it is
as what it will it be

eternity's moment overwhelms
a ticking frozen knowledge
mis-understood emotions
melting into moments
in the cold precision of time
swirling like a clock over ice
holding with both hands
a double vision

A TEMPO PRE-VERSED

"Shaded" A Mendoza, 2004

a decider destructiveness

less perverse as civilized

still elusive and simple

a symphony

a tempo

a monotony

 perverse

civilized

magical in-conclusion

essential indecision

heat devolves to ice

light devolves to dark

water hides the clear

devolved light

ice monotony

eludes water

 devolved light

 dissolved in ice

consuming the very air

we float in

a tempo perverse

a rhythmic in-conclusion

decider destructiveness

elusive and simple

as dark and ice

consuming the very air

of a perverse

MAD REASON

MAD  REASON

from commitment

to commandment

omitting

a commandment to commit

to do as a command

doesn't commit by command

omitting freewill

committing a lie

omitting commitment

never free of commandment

melding madness

 molding reason

mashed words

into mad reason

molded mashed and melded

like thought pencil and paper

a madness

fed by a darkness

seen in light

melded to a mold darkly

becoming reason

as madness

mashed commandments

madness commitment

free to omit

admitting lie
